![]() ![]() Making a game is never just a developer, it's this weird symbiosis between creators and players. We hope that you keep track of what we're up to on Twitter at, and you can keep track of what I'm personally up to at. That feels weirdly bittersweet, but new adventures await! If not, we're also signing off on Nuclear Throne development for PC, Mac, and Linux. We'll keep an eye out here on the official Reddit and on the Steam forums (where we'll be assigning some new moderators), and we'll see if any fixes need to be made to U99. We're going to wrap up with the AMA for now, but we want to once again thank you for the questions, the enthusiasm, your love for (and criticism of) our game, and the great community you've all built and maintained for so long after Nuclear Throne came out. Some of the loading trips are lyrics I heard while working on the game or that just fit the mood well. Other than that, innumerable tropes and bits of culture we picked up over our lives. This totally fit the idea of a headless chicken well. If I recall correctly there's also a great quote in the Way of the Samurai along the lines of "be so confident that you can make a final strike even after being killed". Steroids builds on the Mad Scientist trope, but we totally contrast that with the jock appearance.Ĭhicken watches some of the movies that inspired her or other characters: Seven Samurai They build on the bandits, the IDPD, and the idea of a Rad Canister becoming sentient and deathly (almost like a Rad Mimic). Other characters are continuations of our own designs, like Paul said. I think melting was a bit inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark. Some of Plant's loading tips are based on the main menu for Space Funeral. Robot and YV are references to earlier Vlambeer games (Super Crate Box & Gun Godz). Fish also has some Waterworld references, with the Kevin Costner loading screen tip. A lot of the characters and world design is based on tropes from that and postapocalyptic movies, things like the bandits and giant scorpions just fit that cheesy vibe. I've got a lot of love for 50s/60s/70s scifi, before it got all smooth and stylish. Vlambeer Twitter (Head here for updates and news!)
